Ramon Vallejo
KEYBOARDS & VOCALS
Ramon’s start with “music” was at about 10 years old, when he’d try to make sound effects to match what was happening on Star Trek using the family Wurlitzer organ. His mother started him up with lessons with her cousin Dorothy, then later continuing with the late Myron McTavish for classical lessons. Classical training continued at Chico State under Dr. David Rothe, which was uncomfortable as he was a rather large man! Ramon returned home to Salinas, California and subsequently trashed any refined classical musical abilities for pop music. Ramon says that his vocals have been compared to that of a bird, but he's not sure what kind. All the kidding aside, Ramon says, "My recent pursuits in Italian music with the Anthony "Nino" Lane Band have been most gratifying in terms of musicianship, comradery, and JUST PLAIN FUN!"
ALFREDO MENDEZ
DRUMS
Alfredo Mendez, a.k.a. Sharkey, was born in Estado de México (DF). At the age of 13, Sharkey began playing drums in his family's band called Tropicali. The Band toured the United States for 15 years and recorded three CDs of original cumbia, mambo, and norteña music. After Tropicali, Sharkey continued to tour the U.S. as the drummer for Magia Nueva, who was under contract with Luna Records and Fonavisa Publishing. The band released three CDs and performed alongside many popular artists; including Enrique Iglesias, Pepe Aguilar, and Jenny Rivera. After Magia Nueva, Sharkey toured the U.S. with Banda Pachuco, a techno Banda. They had over 30 hit songs. Sharkey is now the drummer in the Anthony "Nino" Lane Band. When asked about the Band, Sharkey says, "I love this band. I love the music. I love the energy. We have so much fun when we're on stage, and I will continue playing with this band until I retire, which I never will as long as I'm healthy!"
AMALIA DIAZ
VIOLIN & VOCALS
Amalia Diaz was born in Colombia. Her mother, a violinist/singer/teacher was her first inspiration. Amalia began studying violin with her mother at the age of 3. At the age of 11, Amalia enrolled in "El Sistema." While in the program she excelled as a music student and performer. She's become one of El Sistema's greatest Ambassadors. Amalia holds a master's degree in Music and her achievements as a Music Teacher/Orchestral Conductor/Composer/Performer/ and Arranger have made her a very "sought after" musician. Amalia enjoys playing all music genres and has collaborated on many recordings from Classical to Pop. Amalia’s love and dedication to music has inspired her to help open music programs for less fortunate youth in Colombia, Haiti, St. Lucia, Jamaica and the USA. Amalia feels blessed to be part of the Anthony “Nino” Lane Band and is looking forward to more musical adventures!
NATHaN MCGRIFF
SAXAPHONE & VOCALS
Born a military brat outside of the US, Nathan has spent his adult life bringing the musical influences of his childhood to many styles of music. Soul, R&B, and funk were the main genres of music within the McGriff household until moving to Monterey County, where Nathan began to excel in the jazz community. As a high school prodigy, Nathan toured through Italy, Switzerland, and Japan as a member of both the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Band and the Monterey Jazz Festival Honor Band. Nathan is very passionate about his music. Currently, Nathan is well known in the San Francisco Bay area as a playing, singing, and dancing member of Orquesta N’Rumba, a popular salsa group. He's also a member of the Chicano All-Stars, a popular Monterey County band. Nathan's a busy musician but he says, "Playing in the Anthony “Nino” Lane Band has become my favorite. I just need an Italian stage name. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know."
